Goblins Surviving the Gig Economy in a Cyberpunk Dystopia.
Odd Gobs is a stand-alone tabletop RPG for 2+ players, fully contained on a single double-sided folding pocket map.
Taking place in a near-future cyberpunk dystopia, the Goblins (that's you) have to make ends meet in any way they can. What better way than signing up for an app that allows you to take jobs as they come up and do what Goblins do best? (What do Goblins do best? Introduce chaos to any given situation!)
Each game will consist of one player (the GigL Master) creating gigs for the Goblins. The Goblin players will then travel through the liminal spaces of a sprawling cyberpunk metropolis to reach destinations, perform whatever tasks they need to, return to a safe space, and then negotiate their pay, all while avoiding getting burnt out by too many stressors!
Utilizing its own system that allows you to roll whatever sort of dice you have on hand, Odd Gobs is geared for quick pick-up and play. Goblins have tags called Benefits and Stressors that can improve (or hinder) how they do certain tasks. These tags can be modified through shopping, getting paid, getting hurt, or the ever-present CHAOS TABLE.
The map will feature:
- A Z-Fold Design, making it easy to pack up and store!
- Covers that are laminated and durable, making it safe to carry with you to whatever area of the city your GigL jobs take you!
- One side with rules, random tables for creating jobs and Goblins, and the Chaos Table, which helps the GigL Master add more and more chaos to the game as things go on.
- One side with a map of the city, which features locations for tasks and random tables that display events, threats, obstacles, and treasures.
- Easy hackability into other Cyberpunk-themed roleplaying games!
- The map of the city is player-facing so you can share the beauty of dystopia with all!

Attention All Gobs:
Phew! We have been hard at work creating the proper assets for this project. Of course, the first priority was the actual map, and we'll be honest with you, it was... a lot of work. We ended up going back and forth with the fabrication company for two weeks, making sure that the layers were rendering properly, fixing color levels, and ensuring that the finished product would be perfect. We were hoping to fulfill early, but having a quality and amazing product is of course first on our priority list.
But now the maps are in production, and we expect for them to be in hand in the next week or so. Believe it or not we don't want to keep them in hand very long at all, so we'll be getting those shipped as quickly as possible!
Backer Kit Time!
To that point, we launched the smoke test for Odd Gobs last night, check your spam, check your folders and as soon as we're sure that's working well we'll send out the full backer kit survey. You'll pay for your shipping there, but you'll also have the chance to add some cool add-ons. Specifically a special print edition of the plain text rules for Odd Gobs, that can be used to make running the game smoother. The map is a beautiful artpunk object, and we want to make it as easy as possible to enjoy and have fun with this game! This 5x8 plain text zine is just under 40 pages, printed on 100-lb paper and we're offering it for 1/2 price through the backer kit.
You can also snag John Baltisberger's newest game, a micro-sticker-game called "Against the Hungry Dawn".
As soon as all of that is done, we'll get this show on the road!
We're working on a couple of new games now, one of which will be run through Kickstarter when the time is right, (ie the game is written). In the meantime, you can find our existing and upcoming games, like Morkkabeans,Against the Hungry Dawn, and more on itch or on Madness Heart Games.
On the Road to Gob-Town

The Road so Far...
Look at those lines, look at that jumble of buildings and back roads for a Goblin to scurry through. Now I know we went silent for a couple of weeks, but just because you couldn't see us digging through the earthen tunnels beneath the cybertropolis, doesn't mean we weren't hard at work.
I wanted to give y'all some space, as we were coming up on the end of ZineQuest 5, and I know you were all inundated with other projects and their updates, so let's see where we stand now...
Wow, you might think, that is a really big map! Of course, it isn't big, not yet, but this amazing conglomerate of work will be printed on one side of our folding map, amongst all of those buildings Rollin has taken the time to work in complex pictures and locations. As seen below:
Are those eggs? Where do those pipes lead? What about the text?! All of these are valuable bits of information for the Task-Gobber on the go. And I promise you at least two of them will be answered!
So Where Are We Now?
All the core text has been written, and let me tell you, I didn't realize how many words I could slap "cyber" or "nano" onto. So many. We've had the rules edited three times, and playtested, so we know we have a fun game on our hands!
That leaves the map itself, as you can see the mainline art for the map is kicking ass, and Rollin is currently working on the layout and graphic design for getting all of the rules, tables, goblins, and something he calls "The Cybotronapopalyptic Gorilla" into the space in a fun and playable way.
Either way, we are fully on track to get this done and laid out, in the next week or two, at which point we will send it to the printer, and shortly thereafter get it sent out to you all!
The majority of the CyberMetal 2012 content is written, but Mr. Adam Vass of World Champ Game Co has offered to help flesh it out even further, so we'll be growing that. The text for the Cy_borg stretch goal is also underway, but we won't let them hold back getting the game to you!
48 Hours to Go

48 Hours!
The last 48 hours! A crucially important moment in any campaign, but we are extremely excited, for a number of reasons!
We are only $500 away from our second stretch goal of adding Cy_Borg Content
We spoke with Adam Vass of World Champ Game Co, and are collaborating on how to make the CyberMetal 2012 compatibility content as amazing and immersive as possible.
We have decided that bigger is better! We are upgrading the pocket maps from a 6x3 design to an 8x3 design. This essentially takes EACH side of the map from 193 Sq inches, to 257.4 Sq inches. That is a LOT more space for cool art and content, enough so that we think we can add a few more locations and events to the game!
Speaking off...
.. the pocket map, let's talk about it.
we've got a few questions on how the map will work, and why we chose to do this format. So, to go over what the map will feature:
An8x3Z-Fold Design, making it easy to pack up and store!
Covers that are laminated and durable, making it safe to carry with you to whatever area of the city your GigL jobs take you!
One side with rules, random tables for creating jobs and Goblins, and the Chaos Table, which helps the GigL Master add more and more chaos to the game as things go on.
One side with a map of the city, which features locations for tasks and random tables that display events, threats, obstacles, and treasures.
The map of the city is player-facing so you can share the beauty of dystopia with all!
Work-in-progress sketch of the map taking shape
And Whya Folding Map?
A Stand-Alone product that is easy to pack and travel with.
An interesting format that hasn't seen a ton of use, and offers unique design challenges.
Approved for ZineQuest.
Instead of a lot of little art, we can do some really big cool pieces!
...and because of that, it's also framable if you want to just display it!
Finally, let me leave you with some video of Rollin doing his thing so you can actually see the art process that's going into these Gobs! You can see more of his art and some of the maps he has designed on his TikTok.
Goblins Doing Jobs in Pentagram City!

Gob-Sourcing!
We've hit the $3000, which means we've also hit the first stretch goal! At this point our ink-goblin John is hurriedly working on creating a cool OS/Hardware combo to bring Odd Gobs into the world of Cybermetal 2012 from World Champ Games.
Cybermetal 2012 is a ridiculously cool game if you haven't checked it out yet, set in the far distant future of 2012, inside Pentagram city, s sprawling metropolis trapped in its own hellish forcefield! Home to demons, rogue AI, vermin, angels, and all manner of folk, Goblins are about to join the mix.
One of the coolest concepts in Cybermetal 2012 is "Video Nasties" think of them like competitive jack-ass-esque tiktoks. (man, spell check hated all of that!) Well, when you bring Goblins into the mix, you suddenly have a ready-made source for outsourcing your nasties and your chores! We'll be hard at work making sure these games sync up in a fun and fulfilling way, and our paint-goblin Rollin will be making sure it all looks incredible!
Up-Next!
We can't stop yet! Goblins recognize no nations, no borders, no kings. And that goes double for settings! We're already on our way to hitting our next Stretch Goal, which will have the Goblins escaping Odd Gobs, sneaking through Pentagram City to infiltrate the city of Cy from Cy_Borg!
Kickstarter was kind enough to honor us with our own "projects we love" badge, and that is really pretty incredible. We strive to earn it by being as bad-ass as humanely possible.
To that end, the game is written! It's been through editing! It's even been playtested, and not just by the people over at WanMonCast!
We actually have a dedicated team of playtesters who we can't zap with cattle prods to tell us what works and what doesn't work! I say all of this to say we are WELL on our way to having this stuff locked down and ready to go!
Other Game Stuff!
Rollin has another fun goblin surprise! The alpha version of his game is available on itch, and it's name-your-own-price, so you can download that immediately and play some Goblin-y mayhem immediately!
